Soggy, slippery, craggy fun at Plumpton rocks. Congratulations to all Airenteers who managed to crack the crags. Results here. Thanks to CLARO for organising a fun event to brighten up a damp November morning. These results will count towards the Aire Club League.
Enjoy orienteering, looking for the next challenge, how about reading a map while flying down a hill on a mountain bike at high speed? That's what some of our fellow Airienteers and ex-Airienteers did this weekend at the BMBO Long championships, Al Powell, Jake Powell, Ian Furlong, John Houlihan and Ian Nixon all had fantastic results!
A beautiful sunny autumn day saw 180 competitors including a big AIRE contingent turning out on Sunday. Notable performances included Douglas Tiffany winning Short Green. On the Brown, Jack Wood won with Alice Leake having the leading women's performance while the Blue was won by George Stevens with Anne Maguire 2nd.
We were pleased to see a large turnout of beginners with 18 people taking on the "Running Beginners" Long Orange course.
Thanks to all AIRE helpers but particularly to Graham Stuart (Organiser) Jack Cooper (Controller) and Chris Burden as planner who managed to set 9 testing courses utilising only 31 controls!
Round up from Sunday
Well done to members of Aire...
Leon Foster 7th Elite
David Alcock 2nd Vet, one mistake on 18 cost him the win!
Robert Gatenby 16th Vet, one silly mistake going to 25 before 24 probably cost me about 10 places.
Ian Marshall 9th Super Vet
Susan Stevens 7th Ultra Vet
Gerry Symes 15th Ultra Vet
Two AIRE Overall Winners
The Yorkshire Urban League has concluded for 2018 with an Ebor event at Woodthorpe. This was the 14th event in the series where the best 7 scores count. Overall Leon Foster won the Mens Open class with a full 700 point score having won 7 of the 9 races he competed in. It was an Aire 123 with Paul Leipins 2nd and Dave Murgatroyd 3rd.
Dave Alcock won the Mens Veterans on 693 points taking 6 wins in his 7 races. Anne Maguire was 3rd overall in the Womens Open after a 2nd place at Woodthorpe. Ian Marshall won the Mens Super Vet course at the Woodthorpe event while Jack Cooper was 2nd in Mens Open on the day.
Congratulations to David Alcock, who came 1st MV in the Gainsborough Urban at the weekend and now has an insurmountable lead in the Yorkshire Urban League with one race to go!
