White Horse wonders
Top results from EBOR event 24.4.16
Airienteers got three top spots on Sunday.
Jack Wood won the Brown course by 15 mins, Dave Murgatroyd the Blue and Tony Thornley the Green.
White Horse, near Thirsk, has a poor 'green' reputation but the orienteering was good. The map extract is from the Green course.

AIRE take Y&H top spots
AIRE celebrated four Yorkshire Champions at the Y&H Championships at Londesborough Park, East Yorkshire on Sunday 10th April. Joyce Marshall W55, Joe Woodley M21, David Bowman M40 and Ann Maguire W35 (not pictured).

King of the W18s
Laura wins at JK
Laura King overcame a 4 min deficit to take the W18E title at the JK by a mere 7 seconds. Lucy Haines was third, just over a minute behind.
Laura's triumph comes on the back of some excellent runs this year. At Kilnsey, she was pretty consistent throughout whilst her nearest rival, Pippa Dakin, made a couple of errors in the middle of the course. Well done to Laura and Lucy.

Chris un-Burdened
Classic orienteering at Holme Fell
Chris Burden's efforts in controlling the Lakeland event were repaid with a glorious day and superb orienteering. The rare challenge of having to interpret the brown lines on the map led to many mistakes. Parallel errors - mistaking one feature for another similar feature - were easily made. Clear attack points, augmented by good map reading and checking direction were the order of the day.

Tony wins Chichester Trophy
The Chichester Trophy is awarded annually by British Orienteering for the best O-map made by an amateur. Your chairman won it this year for the map of Monk's Road, used for the Dales weekend. An extract from this map, minus walls, is at the top of the page.

Kelly courses praised
Andrew Kelly's hard work planning Kilnsey Day 3 courses paid off. Despite the extremes of the weather, competitors were complimentary about the challenge of the open limestone terrain. Most found it a good contrast to the rough Wass forest on Day 2.
Thanks also to all the AIRE members who helped to make the JK a success. Especially on Day 3 the stiles team, and the gallant band who collected controls in torrential hail at the end of the day. We don't have to do it again for another ten years or so!
