Urban event using School and College Campus, Parkland ,Canalside, Streets and Ginnels of historic Skipton.

Safety Information

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. Parents are expected to shadow young and/or inexperienced children.

Under 16's must be entered on Courses 6 or 7 which will remain in the non traffic areas of the School, College and Park.

Directions / Parking

Unless a helper please do not arrive at the car park before 10:40.

Best approached from the Skipton by pass.

At the A59/A629 (Gargrave Road Roundabout ) take the Gargrave Road exit signed Skipton North. Cross the first roundabout (entrance to the Auction Mart) take the next right signed Craven College & Aireville Park .

After 150m the Skipton Academy car park is straight ahead through gates as the road takes a 90 degree left.

Park as requested by the Marshals. We are going to be tight on numbers as there are other activities taking place on site which require drop off spaces, please park tightly.

Overflow if needed will be the Leisure centre car park which is pay and display £1.50 for 2 hours.

Public Transport

Skipton Rail Station is 1.5km from Assembly walk up Manville Lane through Aireville Park.

Buses 75, 580 and 864 stop on Gargrave Road 600m from assembly. Other services use Broughton Road with stops close to the Rail Station.

Parents of Younger Children -The event car park is circa 300m from the Children's playground in the Park.

Craven leisure Centre has a Pool and Cafe.

Registration & Start Times

Car Park Opens 10:40

Registration from 11.00 -13.00

Start times from 11.30 to 13.30

Courses close at 15:00.

Please have an early start time if you think you need extra time

Assembly/Registration/Download will be in Derwent Block school building signed approx 400m from the car park.

The Start is 300-500m from car park.

Assembly/Registration is 600m from Start back through parking area.

There will also be a classroom available for bag drop

Toilets; Male ground floor - Female first floor.

Finish is 150m from Download/Assembly

No muddy shoes in the building please.

EOD fees are

  • Senior BO members = £12 (plus £2 supplement if not a member of British Orienteering) on courses 1 to 5, £7 on courses 6 & 7
  • Juniors & Students = £5 on courses 1 to 5 and £0 on courses 6 & 7

SI card hire: £1

Hired SI cards will be available to collect at download. A charge of £30 will be made for lost or non-returned hire SI cards. After your run they must be handed in at download.

Controls will be SIAC (contactless) enabled. But you must dib at the Start and at the Finish and go to back to the event centre to Download where we register your result and so we know you have finished safely. You must return to the event centre and go to Download as soon as possible after the courses close even if you have not finished your course.

Competitors with standard or hired SI cards must also dib at all controls.

It is the competitor’s responsibility to ensure that their SI card has registered at the control. Back-up punches will not be available at controls. Should any SI box not register, please report this immediately at download.

Course Information

This is a Yorkshire Urban League Event. To get points in the League you need to be entered in the appropriate course for your age group.

Otherwise you are free to choose course.

Under 16's must be entered on Courses 6 or 7 which will remain in the non traffic areas of the School, College and Park.

Runners on courses 1 & 2 need a high-capacity SI card (type 6, 9, 10, 11 or SIAC). This can be hired for the day (but not SIAC) - please tick that you need a hire card and under special request note that you are requesting a high capacity card otherwise you will be allocated one of our standard ones.

Terrain Description

Urban event, taking in the School/College Campus , parkland, canal side, roads and ginnels of Skipton.

Depending on route choice the terrain also includes some rough open with longer grass. Road shoes and shorts should still be OK (subject to the weather).

Dog restrictions

No dogs please. Assembly is school grounds.
