Safety Information

We will endeavour to keep the corridors clear of significant obstacles, and we will wedge open most doors. There will be some marshals on the course. Please do not run down the stairs. One stairway has quite a low ceiling which has a strip of foam on it. More safety information and reminders to be issued in the start lane.

Directions / Parking

The School is a few hundred metres from Frizinghall Station. There are frequent buses from Bradford and Shipley which pass the school.

Parking is in the school car park off Frizinghall Lane, BD9 4LF. (Note that the official school postcode BD9 4JP is for the entrance on Keighley Road, which you should not use.)

The Indoor Sprint is in the main school building - enter via the main front entrance. Assembly, start and finish will all be in the Price Hall (15 metres once inside the entrance).

Registration & Start Times

Registration will open at 1.30 pm and close at 3.45pm

We will have some EoD maps: 14 Long, 4 Medium, 11 Short, and 5 Novice. If these run out, we will offer colour photocopies.

Starts will be from 2.00-4.00 pm

Starts will be every 30 seconds, alternating between Long and Medium/Short. Entrants on the Novice course should come to the front of the queue for an individual briefing and we'll slot you in.

There are 80 pre-entrants on Long, 55 on Medium and 40 on Short. Please be patient as you queue: it may be worth waiting until 3pm or so to start queuing if you don't fancy standing for a long period of time. Those who start after about 3.30pm should also have the benefit of less congested corridors and staircases. However, courses will close at 4.30pm, so don't leave your start till too late if you think you might take a while. For reference, about half of the long course competitors last time (in 2022) took 30 minutes or less, and almost everyone did all courses in under 50 minutes.

Entry Details

Pre-entries are now closed, but click the Fabian link to see the start list: Enter Online

Adult: £5 pre-entry; £6 enter on the day (EOD)

NON-BOF adult members will have a £1 supplement added on.

Helpers will get a free run. These will mostly be BGS parents/students, but please contact the organiser if you also wish to help and obtain a helper code.

There will be a tea and cake stall 1.30-4.00pm in the DH Room, signposted 20 metres from assembly (Price Hall). This will be staffed by BGS parents and pupils for the duration of the event - please bring money (ideally cash) and your own cup if possible. Funds will go to the PTA and to the Orienteering Foundation (charity).

For a small donation, children (and others!) will be able to make crafts (orienteering tree decorations and 'gonks') in the DH Room.

Toilets are within 20 metres of assembly and will be signposted, or just ask a helper where they are.

Indoor Sprint over five floors. Map 1:1100 (approx) SRA4 size

Terrain Description

Courses will take place in the corridors, rooms and stairways of the school. The A3 map (surveyed and drawn by Leon Foster 2019; updated by Chris Burden 2022) will show the five floors on separate parts of the map, and some legs will involve navigating between floors. There are many sets of stairs and dozens of internal doorways on the map. External doors are not mapped. There will be at least one artificial barrier, which will be marshalled. Safety announcements will be read at the start line which must be adhered to.

Dog restrictions

Absolutely no dogs in the school grounds (including parking).
