Registration & Start Times

Please be prepared to queue for a few minutes as some courses (especially yellow and green) have several entrants, and pupils from the same school on the same course will be split so there is at least a four-minute gap between them.
Entries on the day from 12.30-2.30pm - this is subject to map availability.
As of Friday evening, current map availability is approximately: SW: 2, W: 7, Y: 15, O: 13, LG: 13, G: 24. No more map reservations will be allowed.
If school competitors would like a second run on a harder course, they need to hand in the map from their first run and register for a second run. The second run will be non-competitive and the student will use a separate start lane.
Courses Close 4:00pm
Please make an early start if you think you will need to ensure you are back by course closure time.
Prize-giving is scheduled for 3.45pm.
Entry Details
Prices: £2 juniors; £6 seniors (£7 for non BOF Seniors)

Hazards: Take care: there are slippery, uneven surfaces, tree roots, streams, rocks, and some prickly and stinging vegetation if you venture off the paths (likely for Orange courses and above)
Wear suitable footwear
No whistle – no go
Safety bearing – due north to road - return on footpath - there is no need to cross the road at any point
The active golf course is out of bounds - if you find yourself emerging on to a mown fairway, retrace your steps
Leg and shoulders must be covered; the forecast is for showers, so a light raincoat may be useful
Shadowing: We appreciate that you may want to shadow your child. But if you do so, then please declare your child non-competitive when you download. However, there will be marshals in high-vis vests at key decision points on Short White and White courses who can be approached for help if injured / lost.
Would you like to take part in more schools orienteering events? In autumn 2026, both of the national schools competitions are being held near to the YHOA area. The score champs are in Shipley Park, Derbyshire on Sat 10th Oct, and the main championships are in Heaton Park, Manchester on Sunday 15th Nov. See here for more details: BSOA - Home Page
Terrain Description
Parkland: areas of forest; dense path network; wide grassy areas of abandoned golf course. To reiterate, there are slippery, uneven surfaces, tree roots, streams, rocks, and some prickly and stinging vegetation if you venture off the paths (likely for Orange courses and above).
Dog restrictions
On a tight lead around competitors please.
