Choose between 45 min or 60 min score
There will be a Course A and a Course B, which you can exchange once atany time of your choosing.
Each course will have 8 controls within the Country Park each worth 20 points, and 5 controls within the Urban area, each worth 10 points. The controls in the Country Park will be marked by a normal orienteering kite and code. The Urban controls will all be lampposts. Your map will show the large number on each lamppost that you need to find.
There is a large agricultural field seperating the urban area from the park, which is currently planted with crops. Please only cross it by the one path shown on the map.
The area comprises Rothwell Country Park and the urban area of John O'Groats.
The Country Park was created at the Millenium on the site of Rothwell Colliery. Many blocks of woodland were planted within fenced enclosures. These areas of woodland are steadily progressing into the open areas, as the area rewilds. Many of the fences have been removed, or fallen into decay, but most have been left on the map, as it has not been possible to check yet how many still actually exist. The corner posts by and large are still in existence.
The map has been updated from Lidar data and a partial resurvey has been undertaken using ISSproM 2019. The scale unusually is 1:5500.
On a tight lead please.
