Many thanks to Chris for putting on the event and for his great new map of this super little area. (David)
The area has improved immeasurably since it was last used in 2005, perhaps due to the deer, which I saw on every visit drawing the map. A local mentioned to me that there was a white deer in the woods, and sure enough as I was emerging from the wood with the last control to be collected (Sorry I forget to give you a Gripple key Rob!) there, a handful of yards off the path, was the white deer, which calmly just stood and watched me walk by.
Thanks to Jo Buckley for the suggestion that Park Wood could be joined with Thwaites Brow and Long Lee. It worked Jo. (Chris)
A superb little wood close to the heart of Keighley (300m from the station) which has become much more runnable since last used 20 years ago, probably due to the resident deer.
There are 3 courses, 2 entirely in woodland, and 1 long course (definitely not sprint!) which has a substantial urban section. Shoes with good grip are strongly advised for all courses.
SI for start, finish, and three random controls (two for the woodland courses)
Assembly is on a small recreation ground between Parkwood Street and Kendal Street, Keighley.
It is 300m from Keighley Station. There are frequent trains from Leeds and Bradford.
Turn left out of the station and immediately left again into Old Mill Lane. Immediately after walking under The Worth Valley Railway take a short ginnel straight ahead. Cross Parkwood Street with care. Assembly is a little on the right.
Please use street parking if coming by car, with due consideration to local residents. The best parking is on Kendal Street, which is a rough surfaced road.
Registration from 18:15 to 19:00
Starts 18:45 - 19:30 (or as soon as the course is ready)
Courses close 20:15
If you think you will take a long time please start as early as possible. Controls will be collected in from 20:15 at which time all competitors should have finished and downloaded. Please do not forget to download

Short 1.6k 70m climb; 2 SI controls; All woodland
Medium 2.7k 140m climb; 2 SI controls; All woodland
Long 5.6k 205m climb; 3 SI controls. 3/5 distance urban; 2/3 controls woodland (Yes its not sprint - but should be a good and varied yomp.)
Park Wood has a lot of steep slopes, with a lot of evidence of earlier quarrying. Shoes with good grip are essential.
