Due to planners error - mine :( the map run results counted 20 points per control rather than the points I had put on the map. Therefore it is difficult to compare the map run results with those that were self-recorded. Many apologies but I hope that the main thing was you enjoyed it. Liz

Pre Event Info

Discover the Blue Plaques of Ilkley - come to our 'Pop-up' O'ing event on New Years Day. Start the year as you mean to go on!

Safety Information

This is an urban event and it was not possible to plan a score that was suitable for under 16's. (Courses for those aged under 16 on the day of the event must not have any routes that require them to crossroads with significant traffic - BOF rules). Unfortunately this is not possible in Ilkley and although there are many pedestrian crossing points and traffic lights there are too many to marshal so they will need to be accompanied by an adult.

It is very tempting to run while concentrating on the map. This can put pedestrians at greater risk particularly if it is busy or you are going round a corner. It can also place you at risk when you cross roads. Please be aware of your surroundings and avoid accidents.

Please make sure that the person you have put as emergency contact will be available if needed on the day.

Directions / Parking

Parking Riverside Hotel car park is not very big so please leave it for the residents/pub users and park on the roadside on Bridge Lane, New Brook Street or over the river on Denton Road (LS29 9ES) or the main carpark in Ilkley (W3W: swift.screamed.seatbelt)

Please park legally and with consideration to residents.

Registration will be at the rear of the Riverside pub in the outside covered area. There you can collect your map and will be given the pin number for MapRun and instructions on how to access the event. The start and finish is at the entrance to the pub car park. You will need to activate it on MapRun before you leave registration. If you return back through the entrance it will register you as finished. You will need to re-load and start again if you do this by accident.

Registration & Start Times

Registration and map collection from 10:30. Starts from 11:00 to 12:30 Please make sure you come back to registration to let us know you have finished by 13:30.

The Riverside Hotel is serving food all day so there is the opportunity to socialise afterwards and compare your runs. Toasted Teacakes and bacon sandwiches from 10:00. Meals from 12:00

Course Information

This event is based on the Ilkley Blue Plaques. There are 24 which are on significant local historical locations. You can run it as a 60 minute score course using MapRun with points allocated depending on how far from the Riverside Hotel they are ranging from 10 points up to 30 for the furthest ones with a 10 point penalty for every minute or part minute late.

Alternatively you can simply have a map and go to as many controls as you can in whatever time you want and record it on a sheet at registration. No points allocated, no penalties - just make sure you return by 13:30 and record it against your entry on the registration sheet.

There is an additional twist to this. Two of the controls were "off the map" so on the reverse side is an additional open source map with the two 'missing' controls on with one that is on the map to locate yourself by. This is only likely to be of interest to those who are going to the furthest controls.

In addition on the reverse side are the names of the Blue Plaques. If you keep your eyes open you will spot a National Blue Plaque in one of the locations.

WARNING - when checking I found that the map 'dropped out' between controls 10 and 2. If you find that control 2 (or 10) doesn't ping as you go past on MapRun we can credit you with the control as we can see your trail. Use this QR code link to get the event.
