Pre Event Info

Registration will be upstairs in the Leisure Centre (follow the signs). Toilets are available in the dryside changing rooms only (signed). Do not use the swimming changing rooms please.

We would like to thank Matt and the staff at Fearnville Leisure centre for allowing us to use the centre. Please respect their generosity by removing any very muddy footwear before entering the building.

Start and Finish will be outside in the carpark.

Mass start 45 and 60 minute score event.

Bring a torch and a pen.

Juniors (-16) must be accompanied and supervised by an adult

High viz clothing is advised - there are 3 busy roads crossing the area. Bring kit suitable for all winter weather conditions.

We need a minimum of 5 control collectors (ideally more!) please. The more we get to do some bonus **free** orienteering at the end, the less time it takes to get everything packed up.

Safety Information

There are 3 busy roads that cross the area - please take care crossing these. The area is bordered by the very busy A64 and A58. You do not need to cross either of these.

Wyke Beck runs the length of the map. Please only cross at the bridges/crossing points. In the North of the map, there are a few "ford" type crossings you can use, but be aware the banks of the beck are steep in places and maybe slippy. In the south of the area, there is one crossing point consisting of a (very) narrow metal rail which is passable with extreme care. If you are worried about balance, it is better to use the main footbridges.

There is a large area of marshes and ponds due to the new flood alleviation works. This has potentially deep water and boggy ground. This is marked as out of bounds and you must not cross it. It is marked as out of bounds on the map.

There is a pond and deep marsh at the very S end of the map. Although no routes should go near these, please be aware that these have deep water.

Killingbeck retail park car parks and the Cemetery are out of bounds and there is no reason to use either of these as a sensible route.

Directions / Parking

The #42 bus runs from the City Centre to Oakwood Lane, a 3min walk from registration.

Busses also run along York road and Easterly road, approximately a 10-15min jog from the leisure centre.
