Pre Event Info

Safety Information

It is recommended that inexperienced under 16 junior entries either compete in pairs or compete with an accompanying adult. Experienced under 16s who are familiar with night events can enter any course. We recommend all juniors are accompanied to the start which is 600m along a quiet unlit trafficked road with no footpath. We suggest you have your headtorch turned on to get to the start, and face any oncoming cars.

We require participants to carry a whistle and highly recommended to carry spare light and may require a hooded waterproof jacket, depending on the weather.

It may be prudent to wear or carry additional items such as hat, gloves or warm layer and also carry a mobile phone

Directions / Parking

Parking will be linear parking on the Yorkshire Water access road, off Station Road, Esholt. Nearest postcode: BD17 7QT Grid Ref: SE183403. (the access road)

Please do not park in the village or outside residences on the access road.

The nearest rail stations are Guiseley (1.4 mile walk), Baildon (1.5 mile walk) and Shipley (2.8 mile walk).

If using Guiseley station please do not walk through Spring Wood and Jerrison Wood before your run. They are the competition area.

Registration & Start Times

Registration: Registration/download is 100m along the access road from the junction. Please pre enter the event. Limited EOD may be available subject to spare maps being available

Registration is between 5pm to 6pm

Start times are 5.30pm to 6.30pm

Start times are NOT being allocated - turn up and run

The start is on a narrow track, so to avoid congestion, the long and V short courses will start on each minute, and the middle and short courses will start on 30 seconds.

Courses close promptly at 8pm and controls will be collected shortly thereafter in order to prepare for the event the following day

If you are likely to take a long time, please ensure that you start early please.

There are no toilets at registration.

We suggest you use the facilities at Morrisons supermarkets in Guiseley, Yeadon or Shipley before you come to the event.

  • Senior BO members = £10; Long and Medium and £5 on Short and Very Short (plus £2 supplement if not a member of British Orienteering).
  • All Juniors & Students courses Long and Medium = £5
  • Juniors on Short and Very Short = £0
  • Dibber hire is £1 apart from juniors on Short and Very Short

Closing date for pre-entries at these prices is 23.59 on Sunday 28th December. After this date, online entries will remain open until midnight on Wednesday 31st December at EOD prices below.

You must report back to download by 8pm latest even if retiring.

Finish is 50m from download, follow signs.

Long (Green) - 4.3km 175m climb - Technically hard

Medium (Short Green) - 3.3km 120m climb - Technically hard

Short (Orange) - 2.0km 50m. climb - Moderate difficulty

Very Short (Orange/yellow) – 1.2km 25m climb - Moderate difficulty

All mapped at 1:7500

Hides appear and disappear regularly and are not mapped

Terrain Description

Dangerous crag on long course to have hazard warning tape

Only Long and Medium courses cross the stream; there are permanent crossing places and no controls are sited close to the stream

Safety route (bearing) head due south back to finish/urban area.

Dog restrictions

On a tight lead please.
