The controller is an important role appointed to an event to make sure that event is carried out in accordance with the rules of the sport, in a safe manner, and to help avoid any mistakes. There are 3 grades from entry level grade C for club and regional events, grade B for national events and grade A for major events. This course is run by level A controllers to get you to level C and to extend those at level C to level B and will run from 9:00 till 16:00 at Ilkley Grammar School.
Unlimited tea and coffee provided but bring your own lunch.

Safety and Risk: A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event.
Insurance: Everyone is welcome to take part in this event. However, from 1st January 2026, participants who are not members of British Orienteering will no longer be covered by British Orienteering’s public liability insurance. For example, if you were to accidentally injure a member of the public or damage property during the event, you would not be covered by our insurance. By entering any event from 1st January 2026, you acknowledge that you are taking part at your own risk. British Orienteering’s public liability insurance used to cover non-members at events before this date.
