Pre Event Info

The series is designed to cater for beginners of all ages.

This event will also specifically cater for Student beginners.

All children and young people can take part in the events.

We also welcome adults who would lie to try out the sport

The Event will also launch the Find Your Way Maprun Course -Virtual Orienteering available any time.

Safety Information

Parkland venues are chosen so suitable courses can be planned in a safe environment.

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event.

Directions / Parking

Parking will be on Batcliffe Drive, Headingley LS6 3QB. What 3 words; flying.stale.reply

Numerous bus services including 1,6,8,27,28, 85, X84 & X85 (towards Leeds) serve Headingley with stops circa 400m from Assembly point.

Headingley Station is approximately 1.0 km across the park.

At the venue look for the Airienteers banner and tent.

Registration & Start Times

We will be ready to see you from 1:00 pm

When you arrive you will receive a “Dibber”, an electronic timing chip, given the opportunity to look at the map before you start and an AIRE coach will be on hand to assist to talk you through what to do and answer any questions. The course start will be adjacent. There you receive the map for your course, and you can start at intervals in your own time. You can start at any time up to 2.30 pm.

We suggest a cash donation of £1 per person for the day.

Course Information

For youngest competitors we provide 3 short courses. Do 1 and we tend to find a lot of the kids end up doing all 3!

For Students/ Adult beginners either of 2 medium courses still staying within the parkland area or a long course of around 4km, ideal for someone with a “Park Runner” type background.

In addition we are launching a Fund Your Way version of the newly installed permanent course. So you can come back anytime and undertake either finding the traditional markers or use the Maprun app. Pick up a free map for this at the event.

Parkland with a few areas of woodland.

Dog restrictions

Dogs on a short lead please. Please clear up any mess.

Insurance: Everyone is welcome to take part in this event. However, from 1st January 2026, participants who are not members of British Orienteering will no longer be covered by British Orienteering’s public liability insurance. For example, if you were to accidentally injure a member of the public or damage property during the event, you would not be covered by our insurance. By entering any event from 1st January 2026, you acknowledge that you are taking part at your own risk. British Orienteering’s public liability insurance used to cover non-members at events before this date.
