Directions / Parking

Parking in grounds of Thackley Football Club off Ainsbury Avenue and on Ainsbury Road – please follow marshals instructions as access is required to the Esholt Works.

Route will be signposted off Leeds Road (A657) at junction with Thackley Road.  This is a busy junction so please take care entering and leaving the event.  Once on Thackley Road bear right onto Ainsbury Avenue (signposted). Post code for SATNAV: BD10 0TL

Registration & Start Times

Registration and download is at the Football Club (Grid Ref: SE176388). Toilets are available in the club house.

Start times from 10.30 to 12.30 (Start is approx 500m from Registration)

Course closes at 2.30

Course Information

1:7500 map, 5m contours, updated 2016.  A4 on waterproof paper. Brown will use 2 maps printed back to back. Loose control descriptions will be available at the start: written for White and Yellow, Pictorial for all other courses.

White             1.1k    30m climb     Very easy    For young and inexpereinced juniors

Yellow             1.9k    50m climb    Easy   For juniors with a little expereince

Orange           3.0k    60m climb    Moderately easy   For more experienced juniors and inexperienced seniors.

Long Orange  3.5k    80m climb    Moderate easy   A bit longer than Orange.

Light Green    3.3k    90m climb    Moderately hard  For experienced juniors

Short Green   3.8k  110m climb   Hard

Green             4.5k  200m climb   Hard

Short Blue      5.5k  220m climb   Hard

String course 100m from the start

There will also be an introductory Trail O course aimed at people who have not tried this form of orienteering. It relies on accuracy of map reading rather than speed over the ground. The course will be   close to Assembly and can be done before or after your run in the Foot O. It should take no longer than 20 minutes and there will be no charge

Terrain Description

Woodland partly on fairly level high ground with steeply sloping sides down to the canal. A network of paths (some very indistinct and not mapped) with rocky outcrops.  Visibility is good but due to recent weather the paths are wet and muddy in places.

Dog restrictions

Dogs under control in the wood and at assembly.  Please clear up any mess.
