Planner’s Comments
Danefield is an area I knew well from training runs. It's now an
area I know exceptionally well. However familiarity does not necessarily mean
that planning is easy. For the longer/more technical courses the slope provides
some interesting features but does mean that climb can be a significant factor
and whilst I tried to eliminate too much gratuitous climb it was inevitable
that there were some steep bits in there somewhere. Hopefully
though this did not detract too much from your enjoyment of the area and
apologies if the final climb on the Green & Blue courses was a bit
severe. However you need something to discuss/moan about
otherwise you'll just talk about the weather.
The times seem about right for most courses although Light Green
may have been a little long/hard and whilst I tried to compensate for the climb
on Blue by reducing the distance I may not have judged it quite right. Overall
I hope you enjoyed your runs.
Thanks to Chris for his helpful controlling. I don't think
we had too many disagreements. Thanks to Bruce and Helen for organizing and to
all the club members who helped out on the day.
Finally, and I doubt they are reading this, but the person(s) who
removed control stake & kite 153 on Saturday afternoon failed
to ruin our enjoyment of the weekend. I'd love to know what they were
trying to prove, if anything.
Nick Jones (Aire)
Controller’s Comments
It's a long time since I've read any post event comments (they
rarely feature on the web). So I'm not entirely sure what's said these
days. But here goes.
The job of controlling was easy with a planner as efficient
and knowledgeable as Nick. Generally people seemed satisfied with their
courses.
The climb at the end of most courses at least meant that the only
complaint I heard was that one competitor (since reinstated) found their
final control on the Brown course had been taken in. The reason for
this was that somehow or other they had downloaded before they had started, so
were not shown as being out on the course. Nothing was taken in until the
information available to us told us that all competitors who would
visit any particular control had finished. Just shows no
system is foolproof!
On reflection we should have shortened the Light Green course a
little more. The times here were longer than intended. I hope these
competitors did not find the challenge too much.

Organizer’s Comments
Shame we couldn’t get Saturday`s
crisp sunshine to hang on for Sunday`s event. However
a big thanks to all the helpers who shivered through their duties and ensured
the event went so smoothly. It was
especially great to see so many doing the string course. By the number of
positive comments we heard it seems that planner Nick Jones` courses were much
enjoyed and challenged even the Danefield regulars.
