Controller's Comments

This event took place thanks to the principles of "Just In Time" logistics.  A few weeks ago when I agreed to act as Controller there were no maps, no courses, and tendonitis prevented me from walking any distance.  Fortunately everything came together in the last few days; we even had a thaw on Saturday and so did not have to struggle to force bamboo canes into permafrost when hanging controls.  I was happy that Tim's courses offered appropriate challenges in accordance with the Rules and Guidelines and they made for good competition.  The extended map gave some variation in terrain for the two long courses, including a railway crossing and views of the M621.

The area is vulnerable to vandalism and control 218 on Brown and Blue was stolen during the morning despite the presence of several forest patrols.  Late arrivals at this site found a notice to this effect and could proceed without wasting time.

This was the first experience of organising for Dave Bentley and he acquitted himself well with good support from the AIRE teams.  My thanks go to them all on behalf of the competitors.

Organiser’s Comments

On the day it seemed that I tuned up, handed out some equipment, put up some
signs and then stood around all day and watched everybody else do the work,
hence so many people to thank.
First of all thanks to Jeff and Chris for the much extended new map, meaning
that there is now space to run a Brown course on the site.  This seemed to
go down very well despite the fact that the event was advertised as courses
White to Blue (The Brown course was only included after the flyers were
produced).
Thanks in particular on my part to Guy Patterson, my 'assistant' organiser.
Everybody should have Guy to help them on their first event, you just have
to make sure he doesn't do it all.  I suspect if he had enough arms and legs
he would run the event entirely on his own.
Of course thanks to Tim for giving up his valuable revision time to plan the
courses and to Steve for coming in at short notice to control the event.  I
only heard good comments about the courses, although there weren't many
people smiling on the Blue and Brown course as they ran up the road past the
Equestrian Centre.
Thanks to Jeff (once again) and Ken for all their help on the day, to all
the team leaders and team members for running the event and the volunteers
who patrolled the wood.
Finally thanks to South Leeds Stadium for the use of their car park (next
time we'll organise the event when Hunslet are playing away so that we can
have the car park all day), and the Equestrian Centre for the use of their
facilities which were much appreciated (especially by the registration team
I suspect).

Planner’s Comments

Firstly thanks to Chris Burden and Jeff Mason for the new map, which for
any one on a longer course gives welcome relief from running in circles
for 7 km. Also thanks once more to Jeff for innumerable hints and tips
along the way, as this was my first time planning and it's always the
little things you forget.  Nobody seemed to notice it was my first
attempt, or the facts that the map wasn't completed till January, I came
back from university on the 22nd of December, I didn't look round the
park till the 28th, and the courses weren't finalised until the Friday
before the event.
From what I heard, everyone seemed to enjoy their runs which I am very
pleased about and I only had one complaint, from my brother!  Finally
thanks to my dad for the taxi service.
