Plea from Results Team

A brief note from the results team, I hope it doesn’t upset anyone – it would make the task of card control checking much easier if a couple of things were true, remember these are the results of your efforts and we want to get them out quickly:

1. If the punches went ALL the way through the control cards, there are always some cards where some of the pins don’t even leave an impression on either side

2. If some runners made more effort to get the punches vaguely in the box. One runner has been disqualified because only a small part of the punch is on the card at all (?10 in results), making it impossible to identify the punch symbol!

The worst offenders are mainly the runners on the longer courses.

Planner’s Comments: Bernard Foster

As a first time planner I found the task a bit of a challenge. I was concerned that you, the punters, would find my courses too easy. So on Sunday morning I was quite nervous about having my deficiencies pointed out to me. In the event the comments I heard were encouraging. I hope you weren’t just being polite! A good deal of credit must go to the Controller, Jeff Harris, whose constructive comments on the first drafts were most helpful and supportive. Many thanks, Jeff, I learned a lot from the experience.

The new map wasn’t ready until December which meant that during the early stages of planning I was using black and white photocopies of the old map.

On the day the weather was kind to the competitors, but not to the officials. It rained while the controls were being put out, stopped in time for the competition to start, and then, just when it was time to bring the controls in, it started to rain again. Never mind, you had it dry, and that is what matters.

Neil was a quietly efficient organiser - I was unaware of anything going wrong in that department. Nice work, Neil!

Controller’s Comments: Jeff Harris (EBOR)

This event was very much an event of firsts, Neil's first as an Organiser, Bernie's first as a Planner and me first visit to Esholt. Well done, and thanks to Neil and Airienteer's "well oiled", by that I mean smooth running, team of helpers. Bernie come up with the goods and produced a first rate set of courses, which given the constraints of an area such as Esholt is not always easy, especially for your first effort as a planner, and judging by your comments at the finish you agree, congratulations Bernie. Finally thanks to all the competitors for turning up and making all our efforts worthwhile.

Organiser’s Comments: Neil Stevens

This is my first event as organiser. If it ran OK that’s down to the helper teams and their leaders. If it didn’t - no reports so far! I think the planner was generous with the jobs he took on so thank you Bernie. Thanks also to Jeff from EBOR who controlled us all. If you are worried about organising an event for the first time you should be! But I can tell you now that it will all be worth it once 2.30 comes.
