Entry Details

Prices: £2 juniors; £4 seniors

Pre-entries are now closed but individual pupils and adults may enter on the day, subject to map availability. We may introduce a map reuse policy if necessary.

There are two ways of pre-entering for the schools competition:

1. For school teams, via this form: Yhoa Schools Entry 2023 Blank. This could be completed by a teacher or a designated parent. Please email it to secretary@aire.org.uk, then transfer the fees to Airienteers, 40-27-15, 54642503, ref Schools[School Name].

2. For individual school pupils, or individual seniors: via a Fabian4 form on the link below

Enter Online

For both methods, the closing date will be 23.59, Saturday 10th June.

Or individuals (pupils or seniors) can enter on the day, subject to map availability: we'll try to print plenty.

SI card hire: Free for those on Short White, White, and Yellow courses; £1 for all others

Hired SI cards will be available to collect at Download. A charge of £30 will be made for lost or non-returned hire SI cards. After your run they must be left in a box beside the splits printer.

Controls will be SIAC enabled. But you must dib at the Start and at the Finish.

Competitors with standard or hired SI cards must also dib at all controls.

It is the competitor’s responsibility to ensure that their SI card has registered at the control.

Covid-19 Considerations: Please keep to the British Orienteering Covid code of conduct:

Code of Conduct August 2021

If you, or anyone you live with, has one or more of these symptoms, however mild, you should not attend the event.

Course Information

Areas overprinted with purple lines must not be crossed.

The courses allocated to each age group are below:

Short White for G&B Years 3 and 4 (pupils may do this in pairs): 0.9km, 30m climb

White for G&B Years 5 and 6 (pupils may do this in pairs): 1.4km, 40m climb

Yellow for G&B Years 7 and 8 (pupils may do this in pairs): 1.8km, 40m climb

Orange for G&B Years 9 and 10: 2.5km, 65m climb

Light Green for G&B Years 11 and 12: 3.1km, 110m climb

Green for G&B Year 13: 4.2km, 160m climb

Pupils in Years 2 and below ('ultra-juniors') can also do the Short White course, but must be shadowed. There will be a separate fun prize presentation for competitors in this category.

Shadowing is not allowed for secondary school pupils. If you wish to shadow pupils in other categories for safety reasons, please stay behind the pupil and only help if the pupil is lost. We understand the desire to shadow and want to encourage safe participation but we also want pupils to compete on a level playing field.

Adults may enter any course that they wish. We recommend Orange for reasonably confident adult novices, Light Green for those with some navigational experience, and Green for experienced orienteers.

Prize giving will take place at around 15.30. There will be small prizes/certificates for the top three solos/pairs in each category, year-group team prizes (subject to entries), as well as a whole-school top three prize for primary schools (four to count), secondary schools (Years 7-13; six to count) and tertiary schools/sixth forms (Years 12-13; three to count).

Terrain Description

Parkland, with large grassy fields, flanked by two wooded slopes. More information about the terrain will be given nearer the event. It will not go into Heaton Woods. No roads will be crossed.
