Dave Brown passes on his gratitude and thanks for those who ignored his "I can manage" and helped him down from the moor. He is sorry to have spoiled their runs especially if they were doing well. Nothing broken and 6 weeks off running.
Whistles will be compulsory. The area is high and very open. Clothing will be dependent on conditions on the day and a waterproof may be required. This will be confirmed nearer the time.
If you have any medical condition that you think we should be aware of please write this information down and seal it in an envelope with your name on and hand it in at registration. It will only be opened in case of emergency and will be destroyed afterwards if you do not recover it from us.
For any one orienteering for the first time be aware that 'Course Close Time' means that you should be back at the assembly area and go to Download by that time in order for us to know that you have finished safely. Please do not forget to do that otherwise we will have to instigate a search which may involve us calling out Mountain Rescue needlessly.
Parking and Assembly is in along the roadside (Grid Ref SD884682; w3w is 'workbench.cuts.nozzles') near 'Great Hill' accessed via Cove Road going NW out of Malham for 4 miles. There will be a parking fee of £1 per car collected in cash on the day. All cars must arrive by 12:00 and no return down that road to Malham will be possible until 12:30. Roads are very narrow and Malham can be very busy on a fine September day.
UPDATE 09/09/2024 - There is also a fell race based at Malham Showground just south of the Visitor Centre. Runners will be starting at 10:00 and 10:30 and go north along Cove Road to the campsite where they will then turn off up the track to the Cove. Please be aware of runners when arriving around this period of time and note that most of their vehicles will be arriving probably before 9:30
Registration will open at 10:00 until 12:00
Start times are from 10.30 to 12.30. Courses close at 14.30. THERE WILL NOT BE TIMED STARTS
Assembly is close to parking. There will be two starts, the Near Start is 500m from assembly for Y, O, LG and VSG and the Far Start for the other courses is 1.4km both are fairly flat. There will be a stile to cross on the way to each start - be aware that runners will be coming through the other way to people going to the start.
Finish is 700m from assembly.
YHOA are running a cake stall today. Any contributions welcome and it will be CASH only.

For the YHOA Superleague you can run any course you wish and score points; the standard class and course mapping is shown below. Black, Brown, Blue, Short Blue and Green are at 1:10000, the rest are 1:7500. Black, Brown and Blue are on A3, the rest on A4.
The Yellow Course has a taped route. The area is not suitable for a White or a string course.
Typical Yorkshire Dales open, walled limestone terrain, with rock and contour features.
Generally good running, but there is an area on the Green, Short Blue, Blue, Brown and Black courses which is more tussocky and rocky and hence slower-going.
There are areas of limestone pavement which are shown by a grey screen. These are NOT Out of Bounds, but are difficult to cross and can be slippery when wet so are best avoided.
There are also many dry stone walls in the area which need to be crossed ONLY at designated crossing points. These crossing points MUST be used, and include specially constructed stiles, farm gates which can be climbed, open gateways or gates, and stiles on public rights of way. Any damage to walls or gates is to be reported to the organiser to allow repairs.
No stiles or gates need to be climbed on the Yellow, Orange, Light Green, Very Short Green or Short Green courses.
Sorry no dogs allowed even in assembly area.
